A bedroom, family room and covered patio can encroach in a setback and be added to a home west of Hawes Road and north of Southern Avenue, the Mesa Board of Adjustment decided recently.
The board on Nov. 2 voted 6-0 to approve a variance from the minimum required rear yard to allow for the home addition in the single residence zoning district with a planned area development and age specific overlays as part of a consent agenda with another item. Vice Chair Nicole Lynam was absent.
An 852-square-foot home addition is planned with an encroachment of 13 feet 5 inches into a required rear yard, Staff Planner Sean Pesek said at a study session prior to the meeting.
