Mesa council to vote on guidelines preventing use of city resources to influence elections

The Mesa City Council is set to vote on guidelines that forbid elected city officials and advisory board members from using city resources to influence an election.

The vote will take place during the council meeting on Monday, Feb. 26. The meeting begins at 5:45 p.m. in the council chambers, 57 E. First St.

According to city documents, the guidelines would be put into place to provide extra clarification on the state law that prohibits city officials and advisory board members from spending or using city resources to influence the result of an election. The guidelines would be incorporated into the city of Mesa ethics handbook if the council votes to pass it.
