Mental health plays role in some Arizona shootings

The grand jury indictment of a 19-year-old Surprise man this week on charges of murder and aggravated assault is the latest in a string of mass shootings in Arizona, some of which had a consistent factor: questions about the mental health of the shooter.

In the most recent mass shooting, Peoria Police said the suspect, Ashin Tricarico, shot 13 people in multiple incidents where one man — 67-year-old David Liebler — was killed.

Whether Tricarico has mental health issues or if any mental health issues led to the shooting is undertermined. Police haven’t commented on whether Tricarico’s state of mental health may have played a role in the crimes, though conflicting reports have emerged in both statements Tricarico made to police as well as people who he had run-ins with prior to the shooting.
