The man accused in a 2021 shooting spree is expected to attend a March hearing that could help determine whether he is competent to stand trial.
The suspect — Ashin Tricarico, 23, of Surprise — is accused of killing one person and injuring 12 others during a June 2021 shooting spree in multiple northwest Valley locations. Initially, he was charged with 31 felonies, including murder and aggravated assault.
On Jan. 14, Judge Geoffrey Fish granted a motion by the defense asking for a Rule 11 hearing that is meant to determine whether the defendant is mentally competent to stand trial, according to court documents.
