The stage is now set for Arizona’s Legislative District 5 race.
The winner of the two seats for the central Phoenix district will be determined in the July 30 primary because all four candidates who qualified for the ballot are Democrats.
Liguori and Lucking are the incumbents, seeking reelection. However, neither has won election in the district yet. Lucking was appointed to the legislature by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in late February to fill a vacancy. Liguori was originally appointed to fill a vacancy in October 2021 but lost reelection in the Democratic primary in 2022. The county board appointed her again in early February this year when another vacancy appeared.
