Measles exposure recorded at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Exposure linked to non-resident traveler; people should watch for symptoms and seek care if ill

PHOENIX —The Maricopa County Department of Public Health has been notified that a non-county resident infectious with measles traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday, Jan. 29, the agency announced in a news release on Monday.

MCDPH is working with federal, state and airport officials to notify travelers who may have been exposed.

“As measles outbreaks continue nationally and in Arizona, including in Maricopa County, identifying and sharing information about exposures remains an important part of routine public health efforts,” stated Dr. Nick Staab, chief medical officer at MCDPH, in a news release. “Measles is highly contagious and can spread quickly in communities without timely prevention and response.”
