Families of McCarthy Building Cos. employees and trade partners recently had a chance to explore interactive hands-on STEM activities and dive into the worlds of architecture, engineering and construction at the i.d.e.a. Museum in Mesa.

General contractor McCarthy Building Cos. is an exhibit sponsor for the Imagine, Design, Build! exhibition at the i.d.e.a Museum, 150 W. Pepper Place, which runs through Aug. 7.

The exhibition includes interactive and artmaking activities that allow visitors to act as an architect and builder by designing and constructing their own buildings using a variety of materials and techniques.

Activities include:

  • Fort building in an outdoor atrium space;
  • Animal architects and builders in the eagle’s nest reading room;
  • Find yourself in the world of Minecraft in a green-screen activity space;
  • Experience the work of an architect in the design studio; and
  • Design your own architectural model in the make-a-model space using Rigamagig parts.

The exhibition also features 40 artworks by 15 artists from four states and six countries. Artwork includes a variety of paintings, sculpture, fiber works, digital videos, LED lighting and digital photography.

Admission to the museum is $9 for ages 1 and older. Go to ideamuseum.org.
