Tempe mayor assembles task force to address policing practices

Task force: A focus on data, policies and training

A public safety task force to help build trust between Tempe police and community members starts the year off with its first meeting tomorrow to discuss drafting its plan for the future of policing withing municipal bounds.

The Public Safety Advisory Task Force, created by Mayor Corey D. Woods, was announced in August of 2020 to help address issues of policing thrust into the limelight by national and local conversations about how police should function.

“I thought that given the climate that we’re in, and given a lot of the conversations that are happening both locally and nationally, this would be a great time to undertake this initiative and it’s been a very beneficial and fruitful process so far,” Mr. Woods said.
