Mayor candidates weigh in on jobs needed, regional collaboration opportunities

Candidates for Florence mayor differ in their approaches for economic development. One seeks to diversify into the trades, developing training programs and expanding medical-care options. The other favors following the town’s strategic plan that forecasts what jobs and opportunities will exist in the future.

Kyle A. Larsen and incumbent Mayor Tara Walter received the most votes for mayor out of three candidates on the Aug. 4 primary election ballot and advanced to the Nov. 3 general election.

The mayor serves a four-year term and there are no term limits. Only registered voters living within town limits are eligible to vote in local elections, according to the town’s website.
