Mask requirement fails again in Florence

Proclamation would have made masks mandatory in government-owned public spaces inside and out

A proclamation to make face masks in Florence mandatory during the COVID-19 pandemic was shot down again by the town council.

At its Monday, Feb. 1, meeting, Councilor John Anderson proposed a proclamation that would have made wearing masks in government public spaces mandatory. The proclamation would have included all indoor government spaces, sidewalks and streets. Contractors for the city also would be mandated to wear masks.

Mr. Anderson, at the time as vice mayor, brought a similar proclamation to the floor during the Monday, Nov. 2, meeting.
