Mary Jane McSparran September 17, 1932 – May 16, 2026 Mary Jane McSparran, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed from this life into the arms of her Lord on May 20th at her home in Sun City West, Arizona. She was surrounded by the love of the family she devoted her life to building. Born on September 17, 1932, in New Jersey, to Helen Hennis and John Prongay, Mary Jane was an only child who never lacked for love. She was raised amid a warm and close-knit extended family, doting aunts, uncles, and a circle of cousins who felt more like siblings. Among them, her dear cousin Patty held a place close to her heart, a friendship that endured lovingly until the very end of her life. On October 2, 1954, Mary Jane married the love of her life, Donald McSparran, and together they built something beautiful: a home filled with faith, laughter, high expectations, and unconditional love. Donald preceded her in death in 2012, and those who knew Mary Jane best understood that she carried him with her every day since, eagerly awaiting the reunion that now, at last, has come. Together, Mary Jane and Donald raised seven children: Maureen Ruby (Bob), Daniel McSparran (Kelsie), Mary Ellen Krom (Gary), Jacqueline Gerant (Jim), Peter McSparran (Kathy), Kathleen Mendonca (Dave), and Theresa McSparran. From that foundation grew a legacy of 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, each one known, cherished, and celebrated. Mary Jane never missed a birthday or holiday, faithfully sending every "grand" a card for every special occasion. She did not simply remember them; she made sure they knew they were remembered. Raised Roman Catholic, faith was not secondary to Mary Jane's family, it was the foundation. Her faith was her rudder and her sail, guiding her every decision and action. She was an active and devoted parishioner wherever her growing family's moves took her, serving on parish councils, teaching religious education, supporting the women's guild, and lending her formidable organizational talents to social events and fundraisers. She did not simply attend church; she lived it. As a mother, Mary Jane was both fierce and tender. She placed the highest value on education and held her children, and their schools, to exacting standards. She was not one to sit quietly if she felt her children were not being well served; she would meet with teachers and administrators without hesitation, always with clarity, purpose, and love. She was a dedicated Scout leader, a master organizer, and the kind of woman who did not simply show up, she showed up and made things happen. Over thirty years, Mary Jane faced breast cancer three times. She met each recurrence not with bitterness, but with grace. She never lost her faith in God, if anything, her trials deepened it. She counted her blessings with genuine gratitude, and in her final years spoke openly of being ready to meet her Lord and to be reunited with Donald. That peace was not resignation; it was the quiet confidence of a woman who had lived fully, loved completely, and left nothing unsaid. And yet, to speak only of Mary Jane's strength and devotion would be to miss some of her greatest gifts. She was the life of the party. Her sharp wit could light up a room, and her laughter was contagious. She had a rare and beautiful gift for making every person she encountered feel seen, heard, valued, and welcome. She was wholly herself, authentic to her core, completely at peace with who she was, and that ease was its own kind of generosity. Her warmth was not performed; it was simply who she was. Mary Jane McSparran was the perfect mother not because she was without struggle, but because she showed her family, in every season of her long and remarkable life, what it looks like to love deeply, to believe firmly, to give generously, and to face whatever comes with faith and a smile. She leaves behind not just a family, but a legacy: seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, and a countless host of lives made richer for having known her. A visitation will be held at Camino Del Sol Funeral Home on Sunday June 28, 2026 from 6PM-8PM with a Funeral Mass on Monday June 29th at 10AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Holmes Beach, Florida on Saturday July 18, 2026 at 11:00. May she rest in the peace she so faithfully pursued, reunited at last with her beloved Donald.
