Mary Gertrude (Wingert) Hayward, passed into the arms of her Savior Jesus on December 28, 2017, at 100 years of age. Born in Webster Groves, MO, on June 21, 1917, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, parents Louis P. and Gertrude Wingert, her World War II hero brothers Lou and Bill and her children Lee, Stephen and Susan. She is survived by daughter, Sydney Hay, grandchildren Sarah Raybon and Andrew Hoff, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Mary's unspoken life motto was evident to all who knew her. It was, simply, "JOY: Jesus first. Others second. Yourself, last." She had a quick, radiant smile for all, was slow to anger and never was heard to say an unkind word to anyone. She modeled the fruits of the Holy Spirit every day: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control. Family and friends could cite examples of Mary living out each and every one of these.A faithful servant of Jesus and a mighty prayer warrior, Mary made this world a far better place and left it as gently as she lived in it. The angels and saints in Heaven and her loving husband are already rounding up a golf tournament (she had two holes-in one), bridge game (she was a near-expert player), and dance party (she cut a mean rug as the saying goes) now that Mary is home.
