Mary Elizabeth Wixon, 99Mary Elizabeth Wixon, 99, of Sun City, died Dec. 17, 2006 just two months before her 100th birthday. She was born in Butler, Ohio and graduated from Mansfield Senior High and Wooster College. Mary taught school for 18 years, retiring in 1970 after teaching third grade for 14 years at Hedges School in Mansfield, Ohio. She was active in Eastern Star (Grand Cross of Color), a Girl Scout leader and taught pre-school children for 11 years at First Presbyterian Church Sunday School in Mansfield. She was honored with a 75-year Eastern Star service pin and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. After retiring, she and her husband, Walter, who predeceased her in 1990, enjoyed traveling in caravans with travel trailer clubs. In 1974, they moved to Sun City where they became active at Lakeview United Methodist Church. Survivors include here son, Robert, and his wife Brenda of Sun City; her daughter, Ruth Amy Murphy and her husband Mark of Lavonia, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three nieces. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Jan. 5, 2007 at Lakeview United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
