Marie A. Kutilek

SUN CITY WEST - Marie Alice Kutilek died peacefully on July 27, 2016 after an eight-month struggle with cancer. Marie was born on Sept. 14, 1930 in Pennsylvania; a first-generation daughter of Czech immigrants, Louis and Anna Pechacek. In 1949, she married Laddie Kutilek, and they settled in Cicero, Ill. to raise their family. Together they purchased a wholesale/retail novelty store in Berwyn, Ill., operating it for almost 30 years. He preceded her in death December 2000; they were married for 51 years. Marie thoroughly enjoyed her participation on bowling teams (lane and Wii), and was a medalist winner in the 1994 Arizona Senior Olympics with her bocce team. She was actively involved in creating stained glass and ceramic artwork, playing mahjong and cards; and, was an avid fan of Arizona sports teams. Marie spent the last stages of her life enjoying time with close friends, and a loving neighbor, Richard Hoffman. She is survived by her children, Linda (David) Kutilek-Pyle, Ronald (Diane) Kutilek, Karen Brice, and Robert (Claudia) Kutilek; grandsons, Steven Brice, David Brice, Frank (Alicia) Vizen; granddaughter, Maria (Ray) Naseman; and, a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Anna, Jennie, and Elsie; and her sister-in-law, Milly. There will be a private interment service for immediate family members at Sunland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
