Maricopa County links 30 more deaths to heat in 1 week

The latest numbers show that 30 more people have died in the last week because of heat-associated causes, Maricopa County health officials said Wednesday.

That brings to 89 the number of confirmed heat-associated deaths since May, the start of the heat-surveillance season, which ends in October, according to the Maricopa County Department of Health.

Officials said 349 cases remain under investigation.

The latest numbers show that 30 more people have died in the last week because of heat-associated causes, Maricopa County health officials said Wednesday.

That brings to 89 the number of confirmed heat-associated deaths since May, the start of the heat-surveillance season, which ends in October, according to the Maricopa County Department of Health.

Officials said 349 cases remain under investigation.

Of the 89 deaths so far, 52 have been labeled “heat caused” and 37 “heat related.”
