Monday’s new case total of 1,027 was nearly 200 below each of the previous four days. The improved case and death numbers Monday are likely at least partially because of a trend where Mondays often have lower case numbers than the rest of the week due to a trend of hospitals logging less data over the weekend.
Maricopa County is undergoing its largest surge in cases since the summer, with seven-day daily average of cases at 1,092 Monday, more than four and a half times what it was on Oct. 1, at 236 cases.
The county’s seven-day daily average of deaths remained flat at 15 Monday, but has jumped recently from five 11 days ago on Thursday, Oct. 29.
During the county’s summer spike, cases reached reached 3,825 cases in a day on June 29. The county is experiencing another surge, but case numbers in recent days, with last Friday’s high of 1,410 cases, just crossed a third of the worst day in the summer. The current surge shows no signs yet of slowing down.
Hospitalizations are increasing as well, rising from an seven-day average of 12 a day to 42 between Sept. 17 and Oct. 30, the most recent day of complete data.
