Maricopa County starting COVID-19 vaccinations — but only for some

Leader urges caution until doses widely available in mid-2021

After months of anticipation, health officials Thursday will administer the first COVID-19 vaccinations in the county — But while good news to some, only a few will get the vaccine anytime soon.

“Tomorrow’s a big day and we’re all going to be talking about PODs,” said county spokesman Fields Moseley at Wednesday’s press conference hosted by the Maricopa County Joint Information Center.

The “PODs” are points of distribution, through which county officials are beginning to administer the first-available vaccine doses to those in the Phase 1A cohort.
