Applications sought for open Gilbert constable position

Maricopa County is seeking applications for its open constable position in Gilbert.

"The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants for appointment to the position of Highland Justice Precinct Constable," according to a press release.

The board is accepting applications for the position until Thursday, March 14.

Luke Palmer, who was elected in 2020, resigned from the position effective Feb. 27 after going on leave in November 2023.

Palmer resigned  after "an event"  made "the increasing work load at the court an impossible balancing act," a resignation letter said.

Constables serve writs of restitution when tenants don't pay rent and serve orders of protection as well as criminal and civil summons, the Maricopa County website stated.

The vacancy will be filled by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, the press release said.

The person appointed could run in the Maricopa County election in the fall to retain the postion.
