Four confirmed heat deaths have been recorded in Maricopa County so far in 2023, and 16 other cases are under investigation, health officials said.
The first death occurred on April 11, according to the the Maricopa County Department of Public Health's weekly heat report.
County officials said its "enhanced heat survillance season" usually begins in May and ends in October.
Of the four deaths recorded so far, three were caused by the heat and one was heat related, according to the report.
