Maricopa County officers may get stipend; Supervisors eye $2M for detention workers, deputies

Maricopa County supervisors will consider Wednesday allocating up to $2 million on a stipend for sheriff’s deputies and detention officers impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

The measure is one of three coronavirus-related issues on the supervisors’ plate as they convene their only formal meeting for August.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will address an agenda comprised of dozens of action items 9:30 a.m. in the Supervisors’ Auditorium, 205 W. Jefferson St., Phoenix — though because of concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the meeting room remains closed to the public.
