Maricopa County libraries across the Valley will begin curbside pickup service Wednesday, April 22 by distributing items currently on hold to patrons with physical library cards in good standing, according to an April 20 press release.

Patrons with items on hold who do not feel comfortable using curbside service right now can pick up their items at a later date.

“All items currently held will remain on the holds shelf until at least May 31, or one week after our libraries reopen. You will not lose your place in line,” the release stated.

Beginning May 4, cardholders in good standing can begin reserving up to 20 books, movies and other items online or by phone for pickup at their local branch only, the release stated. “Due to limitations from COVID-19, our customers may only place requests for items available at their home library. At this time, those with digital library cards cannot request items for curbside pickup. Digital cardholders only have access to our eMedia items and electronic resources,” the release stated.

Participating branches include Aguila, Asante, Ed Robson, El Mirage, Fountain Hills, Goodyear, Guadalupe, Litchfield Park, North Valley Regional, Northwest Regional, Perry, Queen Creek, Southeast Regional, Sun City and White Tank.

Once notified that items are available for pickup, patrons may drive to their local branch between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays and follow the signs to park. A staff member will greet the patron and confirm their library barcode. According to the release, anyone can pick up items, but they must have the patron’s library card with them. Once the information is confirmed, library staff will place items into the patron’s trunk.

Walk-up services for those who do not have vehicles will be available at the Aguila, Asante, El Mirage, Gila Bend, Guadalupe and Litchfield Park branches, the release stated.

Those who check out items may keep them until May 31. They also may return items via the drive-up/walk-up drop boxes, which have 24-hour access, the release stated.

“All items will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours before being placed back on shelves. Please allow 72 hours before your account will show your items as returned” the release stated.

All staff members are required to wear gloves, a face mask and will practice social distancing from other staff members and members of the public during the curbside service, the release stated.

For more information, visit mcldaz.org/about/curbside-faq. Those wishing to cancel items on hold may call 602-652-3000 and ask to be connected with their local branch.
