Maricopa County grand jury indicts woman after 4-year-old boy shot in face

A 29-year-old woman has been indicted  after a 4-year-old boy was shot in the face last month in Phoenix.

The boy was seriously injured in the Jan. 6 incident, and Joanna Cortez faces three charges, including one count each of aggravated assault, a class two dangerous felony and dangerous crime against children, discharge of a firearm at a structure and aggravated assault, a class three dangerous felony domestic violence.

On Jan. 6, Cortez fired a rifle into a home where her ex-boyfriend was visiting near 32nd Street and Broadway Road, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Offices stated Monday in a release.
