Maricopa County declines charges in Gilbert toddler drowning investigation

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office has declined to file criminal charges against Angelo and Alexus Fiordilino in connection with the February nonfatal drowning of their son, Vincent, whose recovery after he was initially declared dead drew national attention.

According to the county attorney's office, Gilbert police submitted a recommendation last month that both parents be charged with child abuse following the investigation.

Vincent, now about 18 months old, continues to recover after the Feb. 8 incident, according to a family GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser says he has been released from the hospital and is undergoing ongoing therapy and medical monitoring.
