Valley colleges grow seed libraries

Maricopa County native seeds benefit environment

Several Phoenix-area community colleges are growing seed libraries to benefit students, faculty, the public and the wildlife that lives in Maricopa County.

The Maricopa County Native Seed library started in 2020 as a sabbatical project for Scottsdale Community College library faculty member Danielle Carlock. The intention, she said, was to encourage people to plant shrubs, flowers, vegetables and more that are native to the county and will support wildlife like butterflies and bees.
