County public health data showed an increase above daily averages in the number of coronavirus cases reported on Wednesday as well as an increase in the number of deaths.
Data from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health reported 429 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday and 17 new deaths. For the second day, the new number of cases was well above the seven-day rolling average as the number of deaths reported was significantly higher than that average.
While county cases have, for the most part, returned to levels achieved prior to a spring and summer surge, the past two days have seen an elevated number of cases and stand in contrast to what has been a decline trend through much of late summer into early fall.
