Maricopa County Board of Supervisors agrees to pay $4M in a wrongful death lawsuit

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors agreed to pay $4.05 million in a wrongful death lawsuit where a Maricopa County resident died in law enforcement custody in 2021.

The man, Akeem Terrell, was arrested on New Year’s Day amid allegations he began “behaving bizarrely” at a party, according to court documents.
Shortly after, the man was transported to the Maricopa County jail where he was allegedly assaulted by officers and later died in a holding cell.
