Margaret, 95, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 at home with her husband Francis "Murph" Murphy. They have been married nearly 75 years.Marge was a familiar face in Sun City for 30 years, giving her energy and enthusiasm to numerous organizations. Marge served on the RCSC Board of Directors, the SCHOA Board of Directors, the Sun City Foundation and Visitors Center Board. She volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul Society for 25 years through St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. She found creative outlets in the Sun City Players, the Lakeview and Marinette Clay Clubs, and various sewing clubs.Marge earned her Master's in Social Work from the U of Illinois and worked as a licensed clinical social worker and later a school social worker. She loved meeting people from all walks of life and enjoyed making life better for others in big and small ways.Marge and Murph moved to Sun City from Rockford, IL where they were active in the Catholic Church, interfaith and international peace projects. Over the years they hosted nearly 100 foreign exchange students and international visitors at their home in Rockford, which led to many lifelong friendships.Marge was born in St. Louis, MI to Martin and Ann Kennedy. She met Murph at the USO and they were married in 1944 when he returned from USAAF duty in North Africa and Italy.Both had artistic talents - Murph was a commercial artist and Marge was a wonderful seamstress who even created the bridesmaid's dresses for her daughters' weddings. They enjoyed a full life as a great team and supported each other, their children and their friends with unconditional love.Marge is survived by her husband, Francis; their five children: Patricia Gomez, Maureen Formisano, James (Akiko) Murphy, Teresa (Jasprit) Singh, and Diane Cihangir; as well as 11 grandchildren; 15 great- and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.A funeral Mass and celebration of Marge's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday May 3, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6180 W. Utopia Road, Glendale, AZ 85308.
