SUN CITY WEST - On Saturday, June 4, 2016, the beautiful and stylish karaoke voice of Maree Hansen fell silent, as her 85 year life ended following a six month bed confinement due to lung related problems. For close to 47 years, she had been married to Bill Hansen, a former state senator from Iowa and, more recently, President of PORA for four years. Five children survive from two separate marriages. She was originally widowed at age 30 from Robert Lawson, and continued to raise two daughters, Kimberly and Kay. In 1969, she married Bill Hansen and he had three children from a previous marriage. She is also survived by a senior sister; a senior brother; and one junior brother. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Prior to her second marriage, she had begun work on her B.S. degree, which she set aside temporarily to become her husband's Legislative Assistant and Campaign Strategist. Then she returned to complete her degree in 1976 and went on to earn her CPA designation. She worked for a prominent firm in Waterloo, Iowa and a national firm in Des Moines, Iowa and then concluded her final years of practice on a solo basis. In addition to raising two daughters while working, she ultimately found a favored pasttime niche in Karaoke singing, relishing the renditions of the great Blues singers, even winning a singing contest on a cruise line contest for distinctive style. Through it all, she was supportive of her children and relished political activity with her husband. Burial and services are pending for Cedar Falls, Iowa at a yet to be determined time.
