Man sentenced to death for Christmas Day shooting in 2017

A 54-year-old man was sentenced to death Thursday for the murder of his ex-wife and two children in a central Phoenix shooting on Christmas night in 2017, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced in a release.

Anthony Ross was also sentenced to 18 years in prison for aggravated assault charges stemming from the shooting, which occurred at his apartment near 16th Street and Highland Avenue.

Ross’ ex-wife, Iris, went to the apartment to pick up the children to celebrate Christmas. When she arrived, Iris and Anthony discussed their failed marriage. After Iris told Anthony she would not take him back, Anthony shot Iris as she tried to run away. Anthony stood over Iris and shot her additional times after she had fallen to the ground.
