Man sentenced for Glendale store robbery, kidnapping

A Valley man was sentenced to 19 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to an armed robbery of a Glendale store.

Gilbert Lara, 53, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of kidnapping, a Class Two dangerous felony, according to a release from the Maricopa County Attorney's office.

In October 2025, Lara entered a Cricket retail store in southern Glendale armed with a knife and demanded money from an employee. After taking cash from the register, he forced the victim into a back office and ordered her to open a safe, according to the release.
