A 39-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit sale or transportation of a dangerous drug, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced in a release.
Jason Kai arrived at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in April 2025 for a flight to Detroit. After his checked suitcase was inspected by TSA agents, they noticed something suspicious. Phoenix Police then searched the inside the suitcase and found two vacuum sealed bricks inside a pool raft box. Powder inside one brick tested positive for fentanyl.
An additional search of the suitcase revealed apprximately 15 pounds of methamphetamine and one pound of heroin. Kai was removed from his flight and arrested.
