A 77-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle crash about 10 p.m. Nov. 3 near Beardsley Road and 7th Avenue, Phoenix police said.

The driver of the other vehicle in the collision was arrested and charged with manslaughter and DUI.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, they said they found Dustin Peck, 36, with minor injuries and Maxine Carstedt with serious injuries, according to a release. Carstedt did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The subsequent investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor in the collision, and Peck was arrested and ultimately charged with manslaughter and DUI,” the release stated.

Detectives took over the investigation and reported that initial information suggests Peck was eastbound on Beardsley Road approaching 7th Avenue when he ran the red light and struck a raised median.

His vehicle collided with Carstedt’s car, which was facing north and stopped for the red light.

Other details about what led up to the collision will be determined through an accident reconstruction process, police said.
