Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the indictment of 37-year-old Aaron Sussex for first-degree murder for a deadly shooting at Mitchell Park in Tempe.
Sussex allegedly opened fire on a group of people on Feb. 12, striking three of them, a press release stated. One victim was shot in the neck and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, later dying.
Two others suffered gunshot wounds but are expected to recover, according to the release. Sussex was arrested the next day at a relative’s home.
Sussex faces the following charges:
One count of first-degree murder, a class one felony;
Two counts of aggravated assault, a class three felony;
Two counts of endangerment, a class six felony;
One count of misconduct involving weapons, a class four felony;
One count of disorderly conduct, a class six felony.
Sussex remains in custody with a $500,000 cash-only bond, which means he must pay the full amount in cash to be released.
The release noted a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Sussex’s trial is currently scheduled for October.
