Phoenix Police Department detectives are investigating a deadly collision that occurred Saturday night in the 100 block of East Southern Avenue.
Officers responded about 6:20 p.m. Nov. 9 to the crash and found a man suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.
Preliminary information suggests that the 77-year-old, who was in a wheelchair, attempted to cross Southern Avenue, southbound and mid-block when he was struck by a Jeep Liberty driven by a 61-year-old man. The Jeep was traveling west on Southern Avenue when the collision occurred.
The driver was not injured and stayed at the scene. Impairment is not suspected. An investigation continues, police said.
