A man is in custody after a monthslong investigation into a fatal shooting in Glendale.

Brandon Dalewayne Fox, 25, was arrested on  a second-degree murder charge.

Glendale police have been investigating a shooting that occurred around 11 p.m. June 26 near 51st and Northern avenues.

Back in June, police responded to a call where a man said he had been shot. He was taken to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was identified as Keeaun Malik Carter, 23.

Police located a single .45 caliber shell casing near the victim’s SUV. Police also found several cell phones and obtained search warrants for the phones’ contents. From those, police learned the identity of Brandon Fox, who had an address in Glendale near the crime scene.

In September, a witness called police about the homicide, saying she was at Mr. Fox’s Glendale residence when he came home the night of the shooting. She said Mr. Fox admitted to shooting the Mr. Carter in a parking lot, records state.

According to the witness, Mr. Fox had been looking for Mr. Carter because he and other males had set Mr. Fox up and robbed him of cash, pills and a phone.

Mr. Fox is reportedly involved in drug sales and continued selling after he had been robbed, the witness told police.

The weapon used in the shooting was reportedly taken and hidden on land owned by Mr. Fox’s father in Buckeye. Police stated cell tower activity showed one of Mr. Fox's phones in Buckeye on June 27.

According to records, Mr. Fox’s search activity included the name of Mr. Carter, news about the shooting, “most wanted” people, and how long homicides are investigated.

Police arrested Mr. Fox Thursday morning near 91st and Northern avenues. He admitted he was the victim of a drug robbery in May. However, he denied knowing the victim in the June shooting, despite Mr. Fox reportedly searching the Mr. Carter's name about 100 times over multiple months, records state.

Glendale police searched Mr. Fox’s residence, locating gun-related evidence that authorities will compare to the crime scene.

Mr. Fox was jailed in lieu of a $250,000 bond with court dates Oct. 17 and 21.
