A man is in the Maricopa County Jail on an array of charges, including domestic violence, after an approximately four-hour standoff with police Dec. 6.
Andrew M. Shadid, 54, is facing charges of aggravated assault, violating a protective order, aggravated domestic violence, resisting arrest, assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct, according to a press release from the Scottsdale Police Department.
Officers were called to a residence near 70th and Willetta streets shortly after 11 a.m. after a woman reported Shadid had forced his way into her residence, assaulted her and threatened to ignite the home on fire with gasoline he had allegedly poured inside the house, the release said.
Shadid allegedly told the victim he would kill her and himself if police showed up, according to the release.
There was an existing court order prohibiting Shadid from being at the residence.
The woman was able to safely escape from the residence before police arrived.
No one else was inside the residence besides Shadid.
Police created a perimeter around the house, and barricade procedures were initiated. Neighborhood roadways were blocked and nearby homes were evacuated.
The Scottsdale SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene to assist with the barricade. Negotiators attempted numerous times and used different methods to establish contact with Shadid and persuade him to peacefully surrender and leave the residence. Shadid never communicated back with Scottsdale Police and never indicated any attempt to surrender, the release said.
At about 3:45 p.m., the SWAT Team entered the home and eventually located Shadid in a bedroom. He told the SWAT Team he was armed, the release said.
Following a canine deployment and dog bite, he was safely taken into custody with minimal injuries, according to the report.
He was treated by Scottsdale Fire medics who were staged at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment.
The victim is receiving assistance from Scottsdale Police Crisis Intervention Services.
Once released from the hospital, Shadid was booked into the Scottsdale Jail and subsequently booked and held in custody at the Maricopa County Jail.
