A Sun City West resident died while swimming Wednesday in the Palm Ridge outdoor pool, 13800 W. Deer Valley Drive,  according to a press release from Recreation Centers of Sun City West officials. 

The 76-year-old man was found unresponsive in the pool. Staff attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officials said the incident happened about 9:45 a.m.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Northwest Valley Fire and Medical responded, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to  Maricopa County Sheriff's Office officials, there doesn’t appear to be any suspicious circumstances; however, deputies were on the scene and conducted an investigation.

Staff closed the pool and walking track for the remainder of the day, but the facilities are expected to reopen Thursday. Association officials are offering counseling services to the staff members who were on scene.

The Rec Centers is not releasing the man’s name. No other information was available for public release as of Wednesday afternoon.
