A woman was arrested early Thursday morning after Chandler police said she drove a vehicle into a lake.
Police were called about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, to Ray Road and Pennington Drive after witnesses reported seeing the vehicle enter the water.
They arrived to find a woman swimming out of the lake. She told authorities she was a passenger in the vehicle and provided the name of the person she said was driving.
“Officers and firefighters entered the lake attempting to locate the alleged trapped occupant in the vehicle with negative results,” police said in a release.
They found out later that the suspect was the only occupant.
The woman was arrested for false reporting and for allegedly driving under the influence, police said.
