2 die in East Valley crash, investigation underway

Two people died Saturday morning after  a single-vehicle collision near South Goldfield Road and East Old West Highway, Apache Junction police said.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 20 when the vehicle collided with a utility pole, police said.

A man, believed to have been the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a juvenile was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to an Apache Junction Police Department release.

Two people died Saturday morning after  a single-vehicle collision near South Goldfield Road and East Old West Highway, Apache Junction police said.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 20 when the vehicle collided with a utility pole, police said.

A man, believed to have been the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a juvenile was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to an Apache Junction Police Department release. 

The juvenile died, police reported in a later release.

No identities have been released.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the crash.

Northbound Goldfield Road will remain closed for the remainder of the day, police said Saturday morning.
