Man killed in north Valley collision with police vehicle identified

A 59-year-old man died following a collision June 19 with a police vehicle near Cave Creek and Pinnacle Peak roads, police said.

The crash happened about 7:20 p.m., and preliminary investigation indicated Erik Yrigollen was traveling west on Pinnacle Peak Road when he did not stop for a red light and collided with the Phoenix police Tahoe, which was traveling north on Cave Creek Road, according to a release.

The officer involved in the crash was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to process evidence, police said.
