Two cars collided Wednesday in the Sunnyslope area of Phoenix, killing a 34-year-old man, police said.
Detectives are investigating circumstances leading to the fatal collision that occurred about 4:45 a.m. July 17 near 12th Street and Butler Drive.
Responding police officers found Tom Matias suffering serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
The man driving the second car stayed at the scene and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives said they learned Matias was driving north on 12th Street when he began to drive into oncoming traffic and struck the other car, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
