Police identify man who dies after Van Buren Street crash

A 25-year-old man died Saturday after the vehicle he was driving crashed into another car near 18th and Van Buren streets, police said.
The collision occurred about 4:30 a.m. July 12. Officers arrived to find Roberto Olivas with critical injuries. He died at a hospital, according to a release.
Detectives investigated the crash and learned the victim was speeding when he crashed into a car driven by a teenager. After the crash, the driver and passengers left the area on foot but were later contacted at their residence.

Detectives investigated the crash and learned the victim was speeding when he crashed into a car driven by a teenager. After the crash, the driver and passengers left the area on foot but were later contacted at their residence.
The teen admitted to driving and provided detectives with a statement, police said. Investigators did not see any indication the teen was impaired.
