Mesa police identify suspect killed in officer-involved shooting

A 20-year-old armed robbery suspect was killed during an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Mesa, police said.

The suspect has been identified as  Ny'Kendreon Pride, according to police.

No officers were injured in the shooting that occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Aug. 3 in the area of 1233 N. Mesa Drive.

Officers from the Mesa Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Arizona W.A.N.T.E.D. Task Force were looking for the suspect and found the man walking southbound on North Mesa Drive.

“What we know so far is that the suspect had a handgun, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Mesa police stated in a release.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about 2 p.m., officials said.
