A 32-year old man was killed and another man was injured in a collision in south Phoenix Saturday night, Phoenix Police said Sunday in a release.

Officers responded to the area of 27th Avenue and Buckeye Road regarding collision resulting in injuries about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5. When officers arrived, they found two adult male occupants, both drivers of the involved vehicles, with serious injuries, according to police.

One man was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He remains in the hospital receiving treatment. The second man, identified as Juan Pineda Ventura, was also transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Ventura died Sunday, the release said.

Detectives responded to take over the investigation. The scene investigation was conducted, and the area was opened up. The initial man transported to the hospital was processed for being impaired at the time of the collision, the release said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle driven by Pineda Ventura was traveling eastbound on Buckeye Road when it entered the intersection at 27th Avenue on a green light. The vehicle driven by the other man was traveling southbound on 27th Avenue and ran the red light, hitting the vehicle driven by Pineda Ventura, according to the press release.

Charging decisions related to this investigation will be decided once toxicology results are available and the accident reconstruction process is complete. Additional details about the collision remain part of the ongoing investigation.
