The Scottsdale Police Department has identified the armed man officers shot and killed when they responded to a domestic violence call on Sunday night.

Isaiah A. Curtis, 26, died at the scene at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 16, outside a home in the 8300 block of East Cypress Street, police said Monday afternoon.

Officers responded at about 6:50 p.m. to a domestic disturbance call between Curtis and an ex-girlfriend who was dropping him off at a home on Cypress, police said. She told a police dispatcher that Curtis had a gun.

Police contacted Curtis in front of the home and saw he was armed with a pistol, according to authorities.

“Curtis ignored verbal commands from officers and ended up shooting at police,” officials said in a release.

“In response, both officers fired their duty weapons, striking the suspect, who collapsed in the driveway of the residence. Officers moved up to the suspect and began life-saving efforts that included applying chest seals and tourniquets and performing CPR.”

Paramedics arrived at 7 p.m. Curtis was pronounced dead 10 minutes later.

A gun was recovered next to Curtis, police said.

The officers were not injured.

They have been placed on leave while an internal and criminal investigation continues, which is standard for all officer-involved shootings, police said.
