Man dead after officer-involved shooting in west Phoenix

Police have identified a man who was shot by an officer Tuesday morning in west Phoenix, according to a release.

The incident occurred at about 11:25 a.m. Nov. 14 in the 7000 block of West Indian School Road, near 75th Avenue.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the Street Crimes Unit, composed of undercover and uniformed officers, conducted surveillance on two stolen vehicles at about 6:30 a.m.

Police located one of them near 81st Avenue and Indian School Road, and the other at an apartment complex near 70th Avenue and Indian School Road.

At about 11:10 a.m., a male suspect - wearing a bandana over his face and gloves on his hands - was seen getting into one of the stolen vehicles.

Detectives followed the suspect as he drove around the area. The suspect parked the vehicle in a parking lot near 69th Avenue and Monterosa Street, then walked across Indian School Road to the apartment complex.

A uniformed Phoenix officer attempted to contact the suspect as he entered the apartment complex but he ran away.  As he was running, police said a second uniformed officer confronted him.

The suspect then raised a gun and pointed it at the officer, according to a release. The officer shot the man, ending the incident.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Adam Brogdon, was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No officers sustained any injuries.

The officer involved in the shooting is 49 years old with 26 years of service. Police said they will release the officer's name next week.
