A man has been arrested and booked on eight counts of sexual abuse and two counts of indecent exposure within Mesa’s Leisure World community, officials said Wednesday.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested and booked John Grefe, a resident of the community, 908 S. Power Road, on Oct. 12.
Authorities said several calls were received on April 11 regarding inappropriate sexual contact and indecent exposure at Leisure World.
The calls centered around similar alleged incidents where the suspect had exposed himself or inappropriately “hugged/touched victims while servicing their golf carts at their residence,” a release from MCSO stated.
According to the department, Grefe “was known to be handy with golf cart repairs and often completed repairs within the community for free or a nominal fee.”
The Special Victims Unit investigated allegations of five victims, all of whom were residents of Leisure World.
The victims provided similar accounts of being groped while hugged, Grefe exposing himself or Grefe making unwanted inappropriate sexual comments to them, according to MCSO.
Detectives submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for charging. That resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Grefe, officials said.
