Man captured by Mesa police indicted for attempted murder

A 32-year-old man has been indicted for attempting to murder a Department of Child Safety case worker, authorities said.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the grand jury indictment of of Deandre Terrell Johnson, who is accused of strangling the case worker until the victim lost consciousness following a meeting about Johnson's case involving his daughter.

After the incident, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Johnson attempted to evade capture, fleeing in his vehicle before being apprehended by Mesa police officers.

Man captured by Mesa police indicted for attempted murder

A 32-year-old man has been indicted for attempting to murder a Department of Child Safety case worker, authorities said.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced the grand jury indictment of of Deandre Terrell Johnson, who is accused of strangling the case worker until the victim lost consciousness following a meeting about Johnson's case involving his daughter.

After the incident, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Johnson attempted to evade capture, fleeing in his vehicle before being apprehended by Mesa police officers.

Johnson faces the following charges:

  • One count of attempt to commit first-degree murder.
  • One count of aggravated assault.
  • One count of unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle.
  • Four counts of disorderly conduct.

He was being held in custody on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
