Jesse Wells has been booked into jail for vehicle theft and aggravated assault, according to a release from the Buckeye Police Department.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m. Nov. 27, closing Baseline between 1st Avenue West and 1st Avenue East, according to an earlier release from the department.

Buckeye police received a call that a man took a Buckeye city truck from a job site near Baseline Road and Central Boulevard while crews were working.

The suspect crashed the truck into an unoccupied vehicle parked about a block away. He attempted to run away, but a city employee helped detain him as officers arrived, police said.

The suspect, according to the release, assaulted two Buckeye police officers as he was taken into custody.

Both officers suffered minor injuries, and one of them was taken to a hospital for treatment.
