Gilbert police have made an arrest in the weekend shooting of a 16-year-old.

A 21-year-old man was arrested Sunday in connection with a shooting that critically injured a 16-year-old boy at a Gilbert home, police said.
Rael Sanchez was taken into custody and booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail on one count of attempted second-degree murder, according to Gilbert Police.
The arrest followed a shooting reported just before 8 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of South Deerfield Lane.

The arrest followed a shooting reported just before 8 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of South Deerfield Lane.
Gilbert Police said officers responding to reports of a shooting found a 16-year-old male with serious injuries. The teen was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Sunday, police said.
During the investigation, officers learned Sanchez, whom police identified as a relative of one of the homeowners, was visiting family at the residence at the same time the victim was visiting his girlfriend, according to Gilbert Police.
Police said investigators were told Sanchez left the area in a vehicle after the shooting. Witnesses reported to police Sanchez had been acting erratically prior to the incident and he was seen in possession of a firearm, police said.
After securing the scene, Gilbert Police detectives collected evidence and obtained statements from witnesses at the home, according to police. Detectives began efforts to locate Sanchez immediately and pursued available leads.
Sanchez was located by Phoenix Police officers just before 10 a.m. Sunday in connection with an unrelated incident in Phoenix, Gilbert Police said.
He was taken to a hospital and, after his release, was taken into custody by Gilbert Police detectives, police said.
